Structure OSINT research around a specific technical question
Useful digital research is not a collection of search hits. It is a documented path from a defined question to verifiable findings.
Scope, acquire and qualify
A digital exposure review may begin with a narrow question: which company services are publicly visible, what technical details have been published, or why an obsolete page remains indexed? Without a defined question, researchers gather material that nobody can interpret. Pacta Cyber Lab focuses on systems, organisations and technical records that can lawfully be examined.
First define the authorised scope: a client-owned domain, an organisation’s published documents, archived pages or a software product’s public records. Record source addresses, access dates, publishers and applicable access restrictions. A screenshot alone is rarely adequate; its origin and context must remain clear. Keep observations separate from interpretations, rather than turning a technical indication into an unsupported conclusion.
Practical checkpoints
- Set the research question, purpose and scope first.
- Retain a dated reference for each technical observation.
- Separate confidence in a finding from its business impact.
- Review sensitive conclusions before circulating a report.
Discuss a technical or training requirement
Describe your technical environment, documentation question or prevention needs. The scope of any service is agreed in advance.

A concise report must not hide uncertainty. A record may be outdated, incomplete, contradicted elsewhere or tied to a context that no longer exists. The outcome distinguishes verified facts, working hypotheses and outstanding checks. This discipline supports fraud prevention, corporate exposure assessments and training without presenting technical research as regulated private investigation.
This guide concerns technical analysis, prevention and documentation. Third-party systems require an authorised scope; Pacta does not offer named-person private investigations.
